    The observatory at Greenwich.
    The ball on the tower moves down at precisely 1:00 PM daily so ships that see it can set their chronometers. The whole point of the observatory was to maintain the time standard and provide it to mariners so they could determine their longitude at sea.

    Crusader soldiers carved these in the stone in this passageway to the basement. The soldiers were illiterate so they carved crosses instead of their initials. This was as described by my guide who led me along the stations of the cross.
